That's sure what it looks like - an old air and sun-powered drier. Easy to use and no motor parts to break down. ;)

Whats that black object at the base? If it has a motor and heater inside the bottom, some may not have an off switch only because your using it only when its on, and don't want to accdentially shut it off in a drying cycle. My guess is its at least 40-50 years old or more.

It looks to me like it had a motor? Is there a cord? No switch is not a problem. Plugged in running, not plugged in not running. Any company identification anywhere? At least 40 years old I'd bet. Even if the motor does not work, you could still use this as a sun drier. Is the cabinet "closed" so no fly or other bugs can get in? If not, you would have to cover it with cheese cloth or something to keep the bugs out. It's really neato!

Nope. No plug, wire or motor of any sort. No holes or mounting brackets or anything like that either. What you see is what it is. Just a wooden frame mounted on a galvanized base with screen-bottom trays. There is some remnants of a label on the galvanized base but all wording is long gone - just bits of paper now.

Anyway, I've been drying my seeds in it for the last few days and it works like a champ!

My DH grandmother had one similar she dried nuts & beans on it. She could have dried others things but that's all I remember her saying. Her's had a fan attached at the base pointing up for circulation. The sides were screened in too to keep out bugs. She gave it to me but it was destroyed when the roof to the back porch fell in from too much snow years and years ago.

If you wanted to dry edibles you may want to sterilize the screens first. If not, you could dry herbs used for potpourris and flowers for arrangements. Experiment!
