This is a great time to start a garden. The weather is cool,spring flowering plants can take their time getting settled in and developing good root systems so they will take off in the spring. Just don't forget to water well when you start and keep it up until they are well established.

I agree now is a great time to start, but like stated above just make sure to water well and also don't forget to feed.

Sometimes you can get perennials at reduced prices this time of year. I check Home Depot, Walmart, etc. everytime I go as they have 50% off of some of their perennials this time of year. You have to check them over because some of them look half dead, but I have gotten some great ones lately at a significant savings. Of course there is not a lot of selection, but at 50% off who can complain.

Garden centers always have something to sell.
My experience with fall planting is that the roots don't have enough time to fully develop before frost. Then with our sometimes snow-free winters, the ground freezes/thaws/freezes/thaws and the plants get heaved up out of the ground. I've lost too many fall planted plants. Now I wait till spring.
