I had one that was very similar to this one - I think it is the Perky Pet brand - anyway it has red flowers. That didn't keep the bees away any more than the ones with yellow flowers.

I don't know what to do about that problem as we had lots of bees and they just loved all my feeders - even the oriole feeder that was all orange. Sometimes they chased the hummingbirds off and other times my little hummers chased the bees away but I'd like to have a solution to this as well. The saucer types are so much easier to keep clean and refill.

I love the Hummzinger mini. While I did have some problems with a white faced hornet guarding the feeder, it could not actually get at the nectar. My other (inverted-bottle type) feeders attracted hundreds of wasps. The Rubythroats will not share a feeder anyway, so three feeder ports are more than enough. The ant moat works very well to keep ants out, and if you put ice in it (the ant moat) on very hot days, it helps keep the nectar cooler longer. And as zolablue says, it is so much easier to keep clean.

I think I might give the Hummzinger mini a try.I am leaning towards an all red feeder with no yellow flowers on it. I always had the PP glass tube like feeders and they were so hard to keep clean and this past summer,the yellow jackets were horrible.Sometimes, I could barely get to the feeder to fill it.I was so afraid of getting stung,the buggers wouldn't leave so I could grab the feeder and get it in the basement to clean and fill.It was such a drama!There is also a green saucer type with red flowers that I am also considering.I must make up my mind soon.My hummers will be arriving in April if all goes well.Wish they would arrive early April but they usually arrive towards the end of the month.I guess I'll just have to be patient......

The Ultra is an excellent feeder and will last for years, not days like some of the cheaper ones do.

I have a humzinger ultra - love it. No bee problems (considering I'm terrified of bees, I pay extra attention to this detail). Its easy to clean and my little hummers love it, too.

I have found this to be my favorite hummingbird feeder. The ant moat works well, but can be overcome. Also, like all others, I have gotten bees and the like. But I read that the insects are not that smart and if you move the feeder a few feet - they can't find it, but the hummers can. So I tried it, and it worked!! Have a spot for your feeder, but when it is found, put it in your backup spot for a few days. When the insects leave put it back! Works very well for me :)
