I don.t know what your measurements are, but it looks very small. Put a small desk with a few sconces around for lighting. There are several ideas for organizing and using every bit of a small area effectively. One includes hanging a small curtain rod of some type, using shower curtain hangers or s-hooks to hang buckets, baskets, or whatever you like for keeping pens, pencils, etc. out of the way and handy when you need them. It allows for a smaller desk. You can have more room for bookshelves that way. There are also small bookshelves that can hang on the wall. I have smaller bookshelves that are a little deeper and have double rows of books. Put the same author behind so you know what the back row books are. Keep your colors light and bright for a small area, but not stark white.
