Not sure on your specific area, but for me, the Coral Bells (Heuchera) are in bloom when the hummers come through my area in the spring. Another good early bloomer for hummers is Columbine, just make sure the flowers are single (not double) and red, such as Aquilegia desertorum or Aquilegia formosa, both are native North American species.

I actually don't notice many hummers at our place but do see several visiting the Aloe a few times a day. It surprised to me to see them also visiting the Creosote bush.

I love that aloe plant. I have one like it covered by a camellia plant. I need to get a small on and let it grow out in the open so the blooms will show real good.

Right now my coral and flame honeysuckles are puting on new growth and blooms. These are two good ones for hummingbirds. I won't be seeing my first hummingbirds until around the 12 of March.

Also cross vines bloom real early. I live in southeast Alabama and I would think these would be good early bloomers for you too.

For the Houston area, two vines span the early migration. Carolina jessamine (Gelsemium sempervirens) blooms fairly early and will catch any real early migrators. The native coral honeysuckly (Lonicera sempervirens) blooms for several months in the spring just in time for the main spring pass through. Coral honeysuckle is also nowhere near as invasive and rampant as the Japanese species is. It's a very well behaved and attractive plant.
