I am guessing, and perhaps someone with more experience can confirm, that the nest you tore down in zone 7 is from last year. What state do you live in? The hummingbirds are just returning to the states.

I live in northern Ca, and I think they were Anna's, which don't migrate....which is why I feel so terrible. I wish I had realized. Thanks for your posting, though,,,,what I hear is that maybe they'll return?
