Sarber, I may have found what you want. It took a long time wading through google search results for "key west radar," "migration," and "birds," etc etc. I come from a science background, but I don't understand this radar stuff. I don't know how you can tell weather from flocks of birds, but I guess there are ways. I did run across some weather sites that explained various terms like reflectivity, etc. Maybe I would understand better if I would read them, but was too busy looking for the Key West site.

Is this what you need, and can you make any sense of it?

Sarber, this link might interest you as well. It has lots of explanatory info about radar and birds (and insects and even bats on radar!). I'm connecting you to the first page of a tutorial that seemed interesting, but you can keep hitting "next" and you will find lots of other pages with info about how to interpret radar, and distinguish various signals, plus lots of bird stuff. I hope it makes sense to you!

You're welcome, but I'm not two different people--just one! I wish I could find the site that you visited last year, but didn't come across anything like that in my searches.

The Key West site I directed you to is about as raw as it gets. Was the site that you visited interpreted by someone, so as to make sense to your regular, non radar savvy birder? It sounds like from your description that maybe someone with radar expertise and birding interest may have taken the info from the original site, added a calendar, and maybe even pulled out the data related exclusively to bird migrations. I don't know how to do this.

I skimmed the Clemson bird radar tutorial, and couldn't quite make sense of it. I still don't know how to tell a hailstorm or a gentle rain from a flock of birds! If you can figure it out and explain it, please let me know! Maybe if you telephoned Clemson, someone might direct you to a site that focuses more exclusively on radar as it pertains to migrating birds. I bet they could help.

Yes kristen, it was interpreted by someone...got the link to it from this site I am fairly sure. From what I can remember it was a calendar and on each page was a note as to how eventful the previous night was with a link to the previous nights radar. I will keep searching and if I find it, will let you know.

My guess is that a site like this would take a tremendous amount of work to maintain. So, unless someone is funding it, the person may have gotten tired of doing it and for that reason it may no longer exist. I hope I'm wrong, but with all the searching I did, I would have thought I would have come across something like that.

I still think it might be a good idea to call Clemson. If there is such a site, they would probably know about it. Or, you could do what I did and Google multiple words like migration, radar, birds, etc and wade through the entries. I looked through quite a few before I found the raw, uninterpreted Key West data.
