Hummingbird Garden

I have had hummers in the past- not many, maybe 2 at a time. Over the last few years, I have seen only 1, or none. I have not changed anything- 2 feeders, 4:1 water:sugar. Placed in sight- next to a large tree for perching and protection. Are they not so common here? I used to have 40+ at a time in Arizona Shonto). Are there good years and bad years? Maybe the feeder is being blocked too much from view by the tree?

Suggestions, please!

This may be a dumb question but do you have flowers? Salvias like "Black n Blue" and "Lady in Red" work for me. A water mist feeder may give you an edge too.
And yes Arizona / California is like paradise for hummingbird enthusiasts so you may have to work a little harder to attract them.

No- it isn't a dumb question! In Arizona I didn't have flowers!
It snowed again last nite here in northern Wyoming! Maybe flowers next week...
I will see if Salvia can grow here- or if they are at the nursery. Thanks
