Didn't grow for me either then kicked off...

I've got a couple that are just fine... but they are tokudamas and they are very slow. My largest one gets the most light. I can always pick it out - maybe because of the multicolored Indonesian woodcarving of a head-and-shoulders King Tut sitting next to it...

I started them from tc, believe it or not... I'm guessing in 1999 or 2000. My disappointment is not the color but that they don't get that fantastic texture that is the hallmark of the tokudamas. I still get people asking for it, though... so I sell a couple every couple year.

I was hoping it would be such a beautiful contrast to my Sum and Substance in my front garden, but I won't wait years for it to do its thing. It's being replanted in the back yard this weekend. Thanks.

This is my King Tut.
I have had it for 7 years.
I bought it as a 1 eyed plant, and now it has 5.
It does turn a nice deep gold color and is a nice size.

That's really a handsome hosta! Though at 7 years old it's really a slow grower.

Ken, sorry you have not had a good growing King Tut.

The stock it comes from may determine whether it grows or not. Some tc ones just won't grow.

I saw my first King Tut in Gretchen Harshbarger's garden in Iowa ~1978 - they were spectacular and I have had them since!
