I use the mister on the trigger nozzle on my hose and it works just fine.

The mister on my trigger nozzle is a very fine mist. I would think that is fine. It is about the same as the misters they have in Arizona to keep people cool.

Can I assume you do this to provide a Hummingbird Shower? I learned how much they enjoy showering last summer. One was following me around as I watered. Once I made a fine spray she just perched on a nearby branch for as long as I could hold my thumb on the hose. Rough on the old thumbs, so a mister would be nice.

I attached my hose with the mist nozzle to a small shepherd's hook aimed at my plnats. This way i don't have to hold it and i can do other things in the yard and the hummers will come perch on a plant stem and shower in the leaves. When I am done in one area i can move it to another area.

I saw the leaf mister advertised on several hummingbird sites. It seemed as if it was a finer mist than I have on my hose nozzle which is very gentle, but if the leaf mister was a favorite of hummers of course I would have to have it!!! I am still waiting here in Northwest Indiana, but have not really had a lot of time to spent outdoors watching for them. I do have a feeder up and just can hardly wait.

What does the trigger nozzle look like that has a mister on it? Do you have to hold it or is it something I could hook over a tree branch?
The misters I have found locally (Lowe's and Wal-Mart) are not made to hook onto a garden hose. Or maybe I just don't get how to adapt them.

The variable-flow nozzles that I have bought in the past have a dial that you can turn to "mist" and the trigger can be locked into place - usually with a metal loop that slips over the trigger to lock the hose in an open flow position. Some even had stops on the trigger so the loop holding the trigger in place could be placed so the hose is fully opened or partially opened.

Christie - I would think you could find an adapter that would let a regular hose attach to something like that as it would somehow need to get to a source of water (whether via a hose or a faucet).

Mine is like the one jenny described. U just screw it on the end of the hose and pull the trigger.

The picture at the very bottom of that page is similar to what I saw at either Wal-Mart or Lowe's but there was no one there that knew if they had an adapter that would let you hook it onto a garden hose.
I'll check out the trigger nozzles they have if the hummingbirds aren't picky about how fine the mist is. Sounds like they'll use either one. I think I could hang that over a branch and aim it at my little birdbath so it would spray on the leaves also. It's actually just a garden statue of a girl holding a saucer but the saucer can hold enough water for the other birds to come and drink out of.

I bought a new hose end nozzle today with a mist setting and it is alot finer than my old one. It does have a very fine mist which I think will be great. It looks very much like the one pictured above, and it was only ten dollars, not $30 like the leaf mister so I'm happy.

The misters you buy at a bird store are really great! We have had one for about 5 years. My husband fixes it up so it is on the dogwood tree. All the birds love to get on the tree and fly thru it. We also have a dripper and bird bath and they love that too. Its so comical to watch them take baths and shake all around! Also have a waterfall rock in a bird bath. Now with all of those do you think I can get a hummer to use this? No way...I wonder if it is too near the other birds territory. I think I'll try to put a hose with the mister setting near the hummingbird feeder. Like your idea Penny! It should be wonderful if I ever get a hummer this year!!
