I usually post in the pond forum, but this is a first for me. Moved last October. Tried so hard to get hummers at the old house with no luck. Hung my feeder up May 1. Nothing. One evening I was down the basement doing laundry and my son was upstairs making quite a racket. Thought he was playing with the dog. When I came upstairs and asked him what the all the racket was about, he said there was a hummingbird at the feeder and he wanted me to see it. It was about 5:30 in the evening. The next day at about 4:15 p.m. I saw a hummer at the feeder. I work all day and got off early so this was a treat to me.

The other night we were sitting in the living room, it was almost dark 8:55 p.m. to be exact. My son said there's a hummingbird at the feeder. It landed and sat there drinking for about three minutes. By the time I could get the camera it had left. I told him we would have our cameras ready tomorrow night because they come around the same time every day. We were both waiting the next night cameras in hand. My son made a remark if it came at the same time as yesterday he would laugh his head off because they can't tell time. Sure enough at 8:55 p.m. there it was, and we both snapped pics of it. I think we scared it because it didn't come the next day. It did come back the night before last and I managed to snap another picture. But it didn't come back last night. Hope we didn't scare it away. I am so excited this is my first ever hummer season.

Do they usually come around so late at night? It was almost dark out. We had to use our flash, so I think we scared it. It didn't hang around very long afterward.
