Keep wood and paint light colour on wood wall and natural hardwood for floor and chairs and tables need updates

HI -- Here we go again with the knotty pine walls . If your house is Not a cabin and the paneling is old , then ,I would remove it . And just have nice new drywall walls . It's best to check the electric wiring and the insulation anyway. I am so tired of everyone saying to paint it when it really should go.Removing it is not that hard to do and it's so worth it.

Sometimes there are budgetary concerns when first moving into a new-to-you older home. I think different options need to be considered. But what Stef seems mainly concerned with is furniture layout, which we will be better able to address when we have more info.

I already like the wood look design on your walls. Your living room is spacious enough to contain large furniture. I would suggest to put your furniture at the left side since the right side of the room is the kitchen. That is to keep the furniture from blocking the way towards your kitchen. :)

Here is a photo from the other direction to give a better idea. The carpet has to stay and I would like to paint the paneling rather than remove it. The furniture in the pictures is the previous owners so the room is empty, I do not have any living room furniture yet as what I did have I put in the den. I thought about white washing the walls so some of the grain wold show through but am not opposed to painting solid either. The trim is an awful yellow color so that will be done as well. Just because of where the entrances are it is hard to Imagine how o set up the room or what type of furniture I need to buy. I'd like to get a sectional but because of the shape I dont want to block anything off or make the room feel divided. I'll try and come up with a sketch and measurements as well. Any ideas are welcome! Thank you all! :)

Almost forgot! This is a 1920s farmhouse in the mountains of Virginia. I like both modern and traditional designs. Natural color is preferred and I like textures and quirky details. The kitchen and dining areas are yellow and coastal blue, so I'd prefer not to have those colors. I do like the idea of navy blue though and possibly red or orange as an accent color. Also, if anyone has links to furniture or inspiration photos I'd be happy to take them!

You should post pictures of all areas to get an accurate assessment of what you really need.

Hello-keep the paneling for now---that will be your orange in the room. I selected a sectional for this space---add off-white chairs. If you do decide to paint the wood---antique it chartreuse or deep periwinkle---add orange chairs... off-white grommet panels... Good Luck!!!

You will have more flexibility of furniture arrangement with a sofa and two chairs, tho your room is certainly big enough if you truly want a sectional.

What furniture do you currently have? Single seaters, 3 seater, a floor plan would really help out.
