Nice photos... but is his right eye okay?

I'm guessing that was shot with a flash which caused the eye to look as it does. Note the white spots reflecting of the fence as well.

Is that a sphinx moth? We have a few of them, but they're yellow and black, like a bumblebee.

Deb's right; it's the dreaded flash. The pictures were taken at dusk, and rather than risking a worse shot, I opted to leave the flash on. It's bad enough having to fix red eye, but flash eye? Oh brother...

Tony; I've never seen a sphinx moth, well, judging by the pics I had Googled. I believe it's either Hemaris gracilis (Slender Clearwing) or H. thysbe (Hummingbird Clearwing), but leaning towards the gracilis based on the pics I looked at.

I got my FIRST EVER hummer picture last week - but it is so blurry I'd have to tell you what it is! (grin!)

I was taking pictures of flowers and it flew right past my head and drank out of a daylily, I swung and snapped but the camera focused on something in the distance, bummer.

My male is finally loosening up; he's not getting bothered by me being on the deck. I don't think I've ever had such a problem getting good pics. I had plenty the first 3 years, but this year, it's been quite a challenge...

in Photobucket so that it fits the page well (without expanding off to the right). You copy the tag,
as shown in the picture below, directly into this thread.

Here's another hummer shot; I took it at the same feeder at a different angle. I've had the impatiens there since May;
I can't believe I've missed such colorful shots! Too bad it was at dusk; it came out kind of grainy :(

At least I have a second male. He was also perched on the fence (the same spot that my regular frequents)
while my regular male was at the feeder. I was surprised that one didn't chase away the other...

The pics were taken with a digital camera, a Fuji FinePix 3800. It's 3 years old now. I did have it zoomed, but I was relatively close; about 5' away and 2' up. I've got my eye on the Canon digital SLR. It'll probably be another year until I can have one of those; I'm waiting for the price to drop below $600.
