I had to do this a few years ago to mine. They can see that red from a long distance, the hard part is trying to get them out. I just hit mine with a little flat black paint. Works great

Thats a good Idea on the black paint, I have had them fly in but they fly right back out , they know where the real feeders and flowers are around here. The rest of the time my doors are down so Ive not had a problem here in 4yrs.

Yup, it's true. I saw it myself. Each summer hummers will get trapped in my garage and are very hard to get out. How come they can find their way to Mexico and back and can't find the way out of my garage? I don't know. Maybe it's bird brains.
Yes, are attracted to the emergency release handle on the overhead door. While working on my lawnmower, I observed several fly up to the red handle to check it out. I shooed they away. Then I realized that this could be why they fly into the garage. My emergency release handle is now dark green. Pass this word to our other friends of hummers!

My handle is painted black and the little rascals still get in the garage. When they do I hang a feeder in the doorway for them. They will go to the feeder, have a drink, and then fly on their merry way.

I just taped the red pull cords over with masking tape. It works very good. The problem that I sometimes have is when they fly into my greenhouse and can't find their way out. What works for me is to hang a feeder right over the doorway and that gets them out.
