Last evening just before it got fully dark, I watched a hummer making "late rounds". She visited several different flowers, then emerged from a canna with yellow pollen the full length of her bill and a patch of it on top of her head. It had an almost fluorescent quality in the dim light...was good for a real laugh. What a pic it would have made.

I'm afraid that even with the flash, the combination of low light and distance wouldn't have captured a good pic...but under better circumstances it would have been great.

It was a good day for watching the hummers. While I stood over a large pot of daturas, carefully clipping off their spiny seedpods, Ms. Rufous came to visit the salvias & phygelius nearby, easily within arm's reach of me. While I froze in place & watched her every move, she glanced at me as if to say, "yeah, yeah, I'm cute & entertaining...they all tell me that." lol
