I am also in NE Ohio, Medina, I haven't seen my chasing hummers since last week. Getting ready to take down the feeder today. I would think these cool nights have been hard on those by you.

Hummers leave in stages, usually the males leave first, then the females, then the juveniles. It can take a period of several weeks for all of them to head out. I am in Missouri and had about 75 birds this summer, right now am down to about 25. The others have left gradually over the past 2 weeks.

sorry, forgot to add this to other message. You should leave up your feeder for about 2 weeks after you see your last hummer to feed any stragglers that pass thru on the way south.

Im in central Indy but I have the same situation you do , many have left but still have several visits throughout the day. Im guessing what you have are birds that are just passing thru on their way south. They may stay for a couple days to take what you have , but be assured they are on they south. Do you still have any males or are they all females and immatures as I have?----Steve

newbie here too! I just began feeding a month ago and it was a thrill to see one hummer sit most of the day in the shrub in front of my window, fiercely guarding his 'stash' of sugar water which I faithfully kept fresh every few days.. What a joy to watch this wonderful little bird.. I tried getting pictures but I need a better camera..(suggestions on a good but not too expensive camera anyone?) I saw him many times throughout the day yesterday, as well as another bird who has tried for weeks to get a taste of the nectar I put out..he kept getting chased off but he was fine.. I saw him fly back to the neighbors feeder so he had plenty to eat as well. I'm so sad to think they are gone for the year but it seems that way.. I noticed over the weekend he was feeding constantly.. looking fat and sassy.. We had a cold snap last night and I didnt think he'd be here this morning.. it's so sad and I'll miss seeing him..really made my day!! I'm hooked though and will look forward to seeing them again next spring.

I'm from NE Ohio, a couple blocks from Lake Erie.

I hadn't seen any hummers for two days until today. My husband saw a female at the feeder early this morning, and I just saw a female at the other feeder a few minutes ago. It's almost 6 pm here. Not sure if it was a regular, but they were mature females, not immatures.

In fact, she just came back as I'm writing this. It's only 62 degrees out and supposed to get down to 40s tonight. That's the coldest we've had so far. I'll be on the watch out for them after tonight.

I do plan to leave my feeders up for at least two weeks after I see the last one.
