It's common in late August/September to see more hummers. I'm not sure if it's just the new ones coming to the feeders, or migratory ones as well as residents. But it's the fun part of the year! We've added 2 feeders in the past week to compensate for the additions and to keep them from fighting.

Migration is under way. We have hundreds of new hummers in our neighborhood.

Try sitting very still holding your feeder and you can probably get some to come in and eat while you are holding it!! It is very cool to see them really up close. You will get some flying and diving around you.

I am holding the feeder.

Im sorry I dont have hundreds but the other morning I had 20plus and I tried holding a feeder for the first time and got several to feed from it and fight over it. Thats pretty good considering I have 9 other feeders in my yard. I must admit it is a great thrill for anyone to do this.
