Are you wanting to redo the room, or simply rearrange furniture?

If you are open to new furniture, then I would say go for 2 large couches, instead of a couch and two love seats. Having the 2 love seats really boxes the seating area in and segregates it from the rest of the space. If you eliminate the love seat closest to the dining table and push the furniture all closer to the TV you could then add a sofa table to separate the computer area from seating area. You'd still have lots of room and would make it all seem more open.

I personally think dining areas make the most sense being closest to the kitchen, so if that's the case now I wouldn't change it. Looks like you have a LOT of black, some beige and brown, and nothing on the walls. If you are really stuck for inspiration I would suggest putting up some kind of artwork (doesn't have to be fancy, you could just pick out a relatively inexpensive canvas print from Target or BB&B) and adding colors around your space based off of that. Pillows, a rug in the living room, a dining table runner, a throw blanket on the couch, a vase... Just think about ways you can bring some color and pattern in with accessories and I think that would help a lot!

Hello, If that's your only living room space and you have a budget then toast those black sofa's all together. If not push the one large sofa against the wall and put the desk in the window area to the left opposite the TV. Then shed the other two large love seat and chair. Then add a 8'x10 rug in front of the sofa and flank it with two smaller swivel chairs with a small coffee table in the center. That will open up the space and allow you to turn the chairs for TV watching. also mount the TV on the wall and put decorative accents on the existing cabinet below. Further more hang a picture or small mirrors above the sofa and or just paint the same wall with a anchor color in the same hue as the existing paint but a little darker. Then use a floor lamp on either side of the sofa to create dimension and light. Good luck!!

I think that we need a bit more description of what you are wanting to do. Are you wanting to rearrange what you currently have, add new or purchase new? Some photos of wider angles would help us to better understand your space. Right now, it is very difficult to see all that is going on. If you could stand on each of the four outer corners and take photos at an angle, it would help us see adjoining spaces and doorways! Also, sketching a little layout could be beneficial if the photos are difficult to position.

Hi, thank you all for your comments. We were thinking of getting rid of the PC area and just use the laptop.

Then to mount the tv on the wall where the PC was. The cabinet that was under the tv switch with the piano. And maybe to put a large broad mirror above the cabinet.

No idea where to place the cabinet that is in the corner in the dining room. What do you all think? Will add more pics now. Thanks!!

If the piano were moved to behind the couch where a sofa table would normally go, could you turn the DR table crosswise to break up the row effect? How deep Is the radiator cover under the window ? I'd like to extend it into the room and top it with a cushion. Just pull it forward adding at rear to keep the lattice design on front. To counteract the low mass presented by the leather furniture you need to draw the eye up. Switch the curtains out for more tailored drapes in a darker color or large print to give a strong vertical at the window. Allow the curtain to fall straight to the floor. Enlarge the art/decor over the mantle to better fill the space and provide more vertical interest, you could also wall mount the TV. Hang artwork on other walls to also draw the eye up. You can have a comfortable room that looks less crowded.

I think there's too much black and brown in th room. When you have dark furniture, I think it's best to add light colour accents to the room, like a cream/ beige carpet between the couches and cofee table. Some larceny cushions on the couches with lighter tones. The patterns and colours just need to remain in the same colour family and it'll work together well. Don't be afraid of pattern, as long ad you don't overdo it. The tv should be wall mounted. Would it be possible to mount it over the fireplace and gather the couches with coffee table around the fireplace?? The walls need art with a pop of colour. Don't be afraid of big and bold :) Good luck:)

Larceny cushions? If you sit on the couch they vacuum your pockets? :^D Love the image! I agree, your room needs color and lighter accents. All that black made me feel very low just looking at the pictures.

You have the corner fireplace completely ignored. Is is functional? My idea would be to turn the couches to face the fireplace, put the TV above it and the components to either side. What are your favorite colors? With black and white, you can use any color as accent, area rugs, lamp bases, wall art, cushions and a throw for the sofas. The best part about that is, you can change them all out next year or so for minimal expense and have a whole new look.

Also, I love the idea of putting the spinet piano at the back of the sofa.

If the fireplace is not functional, that is OK, even better for putting the TV above it. You can make it cheery with either candles in the fireplace, gel fireplace or electric fireplace insert. These look pretty good and are not messy and hot.

How about some gray on the walls, brown and grey look great together, and when you mount the tv on the wall make that a darker color as an accent wall. A large area rug to soften the look. Get rid of some of the furniture i.e. corner cabinet. Just because you have it doesn't mean you have to use it. The room is great, just needs some small changes. Take the dinning table and butt the end up to the wall, it will not be so close to the couch. Put a sofa table behind the sofa with a couple of lamps and a small bench, you can leave your laptop on there with your printer under the table.volia, a computer area.

Thx for the ideas. The tv doesn't fit above the non working fireplace. It's a 50". Should i move it instead of the PC area? Would it be nice next to the fire place area? To paint the walls in white? If the cabinet that is now in the corner should go, where to place books? Your ideas are very much appreciated.

White would present too stark a contrast with your black furniture as well as compete with your dining room table. Taupe, a kind of grayish-tan would be nice, yellow (Benjamin Moore, butter) also is pretty. There are many attractive grays as well. If able to change your curtains consider pulling a color from the new fabric for your walls. Vis à Vis the fireplace, although it doesn't work it would be nice to play it up a little as a decorative element by painting it to stand out from the wall, a larger mantle might be nice. The wall/ chimney breast is pretty narrow so I wouldn't center any furniture on it.

Are you looking to move stuff around?
My advice will be: get rid of these dark colours. The room is lacking light. Perhaps some additional floor lamps will work as well. Curtains can be changed to roman blinds,; theyare less messy and always look fancy.
