Hummingbirds are very territorial by nature and usually the males are even more so. It seems that you have one very greedy little guy that has no intentions of sharing his bectar sources.

Danty--looks like you have a problem there in sunny CA. All hummers are territorial to a degree, then comes this one that thinks hes or [shes] king. And there may be a simple solution thou maybe a little hard on the pocket, but first. I had this one hummer that was like yours, would come in the evening and land on my yard light which held two feeders and would chase everything away, this was the only bird that would do this thou, the other more or less worked things out. Now, your solution may be that you need more food sources, to the point that he couldnt chase them all away. You once had a lot of birds so the option is there for you. I had a possessive hummer last year. When I put up a window feeder out of sight of the backyard feeder, anyone chased away would just go to the window. Problem solved! I did get to see some serious acrobatic moves during the fight, and I could tell my one year old 'Bird' and she would go and look at the feeders :) She could easily see the window one!

Thanks Christy, in the picture there are 10 feeders but at the last check rusticranch said he had 13 such feeders and has to change them everyday.

Christy- I agree totally, love that pic, I as of yet havent mastered the picture thing and also dont have digital camera. I know you are supposed to use the photo bucket thing, oh well. Also their arent a lot of flowers around in the pic, a few bushes and things but not a lot of color, mainly just the feeders.

Like the hummies, I went from link to link and finally hit the jackpot....an actual board just for hummie lovers!

That picture of all the hummers and feeders lined up is priceless!!!

I too have a very aggressive hummie, and this being my first year really into watching and feeding, I find it fascinating but frustrating at the same time.

If I'm not shooing away tons of bees (yes, I have the good feeders, with guards and no yellow color on the feeder ports and still, tons of bees), I'm moving one of the feeders so that the little guy hummer that is always slammed by the bigger guy, can at least get some nectar.

I mean, the big guy waits in the orange tree behind a bunch of leaves, all day long. When he sees the little guy approach the feeder, he comes at him full speed and literally slams into him! Big guy then takes a few gulps and zooms back to the orange tree to lie in wait.

After a few times seeing this, I can't stand it anymore because I feel sorry for the little guy so I go out, move the feeder hoping the little guy sees it, can drink in peace and not be body-slammed by the big guy.
After moving the feeder several times this morning, My husband asked me "are you trying to keep the little guy happy, or yourself?" LOL

I have spent the last 2 hours reading this board and doing searches (how to keep bees away).

Amity, I was rather shocked when rusticranch sent that pic to me of all those feeders lined up like that . That pic truly endears the phrase " a picture is worth a thousand words". He said He usually has 50-75 hummers during the summer, I cant even imagine that but the proof is in the pudding.
