I grew (past tense) Sweet Laura for about four years. The first year or so it spread rapidly, then went into rapid decline each year, and I just went and looked and see nothing coming up this year. It's possible that I caused this by letting it get shaded, but I think it was mostly Winter kill. A problem is that it tries to come up VERY early; I kept it mulched but semi-evergreen status is still a death wish here in Iowa. There were two positive things about the plant; it has a very long bloom period, and I liked telling my relatives from California that the Alstromeria was becoming an invasive pest...sigh. I'd like to hear if anyone has had longer term luck with it, though I don't know if I'd try it again, since my garden is basically a shady woodland garden.

I recently planted one of these and within a day, it was completely eaten. There is a reabit around, moles and birds. Does anyone know who the culprit probably is? I don't think it's the rabbit since it was partly eaten during a time when it normally isn't around.
