Accent tile question and request for an opinion

What is the height (thickness - top to bottom of the tile strip) of the green tile strip? How far up the wall did you put it? It looks a little higher than centered.

I noticed you did the tiling to the top, was there a reason or was it just a personal preference? (I'm trying to decide whether to do this in my bathroom.

Also, I bought glass accent tile in small square shapes and was going to put it with 6" x 6" square subway tile, but seeing the rectangular subway tile, I'm second guessing my choice. Can I ask your opinion on this? Do you put square tile with square tile and rectangular tile with retangular?

i think knocking out the glass block would be a great idea for ventilation / air flow, and possibly bring in more light.

Hello! Until you get a response from the person who designed this, it looks as though the green band detail is three subway heights. The subway looks to be 3"x6". The green band looks to be 9" in height.

As for tile height, that is a total personal preference. There is not a right or wrong. Taking it up to the ceiling eliminates that paint to tile transition on the wall elevation. As for the height of this green band (listello) detail, looks as though she/he chose to use the Windows's center point as the detail's center point. Again no right or wrong but evaluating your height proportions is extremely important. I usually have my listello in the upper 1/3" or 1/5" if I'm concentrating on an upper listello detail. There is not a rule if thumb as to using rectangles with rectangles or square with square. I have even used both shapes together.
The best way to get a feel of your thoughts is to draw it out. It doesn't need to be to scale, you could use graph paper. Please do not hesitate to contact should you be interested in some elevation drawings.

Thank you for your feedback. It is really helpful. I do have one question. In a small bathroom, will having the tile go to the ceiling make the bathroom feel smaller?

Yes, sometimes going to the ceiling can make your space seem smaller. What are the dimensions of your space? Do you have a window in your tiling area? Windows open up spaces to appear larger than they are.

I've attached a couple of pictures to give you an idea of how small our bathroom is. Please excuse the mess, we are mid-renovation and still have to remove everything from the wall and paint. The dimensions are 84.5" x 58.75" x 84.5 " x 27.75" and then the door. The window is one of those glass block windows and the dimensions are 32" x 32". There will be trim around it when all is said and done.
