hydroponics experience

I'm quite amazed at the number of very knowledgeable contributors to the hydroponics forum. Do some of you grow commercially, either part time or full time? Do some of you have a formal education in hydroponics? Just curious.

I'm curious also as to what a 'formal' education in hydroponics is?
I would love to create a community college level curriculum for it. I'm not sure the demand is there though. . .
    yet.
I am sure it would be a science degree, but would it be in engineering or botany/biology? Probably a mutant of the two.

I am just a bloody newbie who is trying to keep a low profile,
    what about you Mark? ;-)

    I'm a dismal failure - if a teacher was to grade me, I would get a Z!

What I have found out is there is a lot more to it than knowing how big a rez needs to be or how long to run a water pump, or what combo of nuits is appropriate, especially if one's background is dirt farming. I've had lights go out on an LED panel that I didn't find out about until I moved the light. Pumps that went bad on one side, airstones that got clogged. Even a pH meter that "worked" but gave false readings. Hopefully, I've learned to watch for these problems - check the container is getting aerated, look at the lights (tricky with a strong LED!), calibrate my pH meter on a regular basis.

    A newbie? Yeah, right Lucas.

I am a newbie who grew up on a section of dirt that our family farmed the old fashioned way. Plants that sat in water after a heavy rain died so hydroponics is antithetical to my horticultural education.

So far I'm having excellent results and a lot of fun experimenting.

@lucas, judging by the number of quality follow-ups you got here, I strongly disagree that you are a newbie in hydroponics :)

@mark, I am also working my way to get more success with hydroponics and through experimenting and trying different stuffs with it will surely pay off later on ;)

I am more of a hobbyist, Mark. I have only grown a couple of herbs which I enjoy using on my meals. I'm still looking at growing other vegetables and fruits later on. Hydroponics is such an amazing method where you can learn tons of knowledge especially in this forum where you can read a lot of great inputs :)
