Molds for a concrete Nobedan path?

I've always like Nobedan style paths but when I've thought of making one from concrete, the commercial forms such as Walkmaker haven't quite given the result that I wanted -

So, after recently reading about somebody's idea of making patterns in poured concrete by using rubbery caulk to make lines on a mold surface, I've tried making my own mold.

So far it's just an experiment & I'll probably modify it a bit and make two or even three molds so that I can avoid any noticeable repetition of pattern.

Anyway, here's a picture of the remains of Mold number 1 and of the very first actual casting.

Hi Herb!

Your mold looks very interesting.I plan to make a path this summer but never get enough rocks for it, I will use your idea. When making the path, the mold is on the top of the concrete and works like a stamp or on the bottom and put together after? Concrete or tufa? I'm sure that on the Tufa Forum they will ask all these questions.Can you give us details and advice?

When I made the concrete piece in the picture, the mold was underneath & the concrete was poured onto it. But I don't know whether that will be the final answer - or even if I will take the experiment any further. The piece in the picture consumed nearly one full bag of concrete mix, and mixing it manually was hard work. (I guess I need a powered concrete mixer again).

I'm not inclined to try it with hypertufa though. I doubt 'tufa's tough enough for a path that would be constantly walked on.
