This forum has discussed potential plastic toxicity in two (fairly) recent threads (past 3 months?), to include styrofoam. I'm not sure which "keyword" to search with to find them both at the same time. :-( One point (from someone) that semi-corrected me was the point that any hydroponic application reduces possible contamination from plastics, even if using PVCs/Vinyls. Another viewpoint (never stated, that I've seen, but i know it has to exist) is that many growers have used "questionable" plastics for many years without harmful effects. Some forum members, however, have taken a conscious step to using "food-grade" plastics. One step down from that is to use near food-grade plastics. That is - plastics that are food grade when they are clear or opaque, but rendered as not food-grade by the FDA when they are purchased in black (for example).
