will I traumatize the iris?

So, my mother-in-law gave me a large amount of beautiful siberian iris which I planted last summer. I have been anxiously awaiting their appearance this summer, but now I think I have planted them in an area where they won't receive enough sun.

Should I move them in the spring and go through this summer without seeing any blooms, or should I see how they do and move them in the fall??

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

If they are big clumps you can move them in early spring when you see a little growth showing. Just dig with as much dirt as you can and plant right away, water about 3 times a week if there is no rain.

If they are small clumps with 3 to 6 fans I would wait till fall. The small clumps are not likely to have much bloom the first year anyway.

They were in a big clump, but I separated them when I transplanted them. I assume I should just wait to be safe.

Yes wait and see what they do this summer. They may surprise you and bloom beautifuly. If not move them around June to a sunnier place.
