Yes. If they are bearded iris, don't overwater them.

Several years ago, I traded a couple of roses for a bunch of stuff, including some bearded iris. This was in late fall, when planting irises here is a death sentence since they don't have time to settle in before winter. I put them in pots, and put them in the kitchen window. They all did fine, and one even bloomed. When it was time for perennial planting, they went out in the ground. They were among the most trouble-free things I've ever had in the house.

Like Gallica says, sun, sun, sun. And into the garden soil as soon as it's diggable. You could also put them outside during the day if temps. are above freezing.

I buy irises all year round. after fall the best way to get them is potted and let them spend their winter months in the pot. If the pot is really small then I find a larger pot and transplant them to it without disturbing the dirt around the rhizome or roots. Then they live indoors in the sun until they can be planted outdoors. Do not overwater and do not let them get too warm. I have always had good luck with this.
