Low Water, Oak Root Resistant Plants/Trees for Slope

Hi Everyone -- I'm finding myself quite challenged in trying to figure out what to plant on a slope, that has oak root fungus......and I need the plants to be low water use, and give me a Japanese edge of forestlook. Looking for smallish-med trees, and shrubs. Anyone have any ideas? I'm stumped!

Nandina does well under my live oaks which have extensive root runners near the surface. They have never been watered and have prospered even in a recent 17 month drought. Nandina has a slightly bamboo look.

I also have an American Beautyberry in the same location. It adds a beautiful woodland look and has also prospered in drought without supplemental water.
