We had a similar experience. The iris were moved to our yard and did not bloom that season. They have survived just fine and I expect blooms this Spring.

This is exactly what I expected after reading advice in this forum. They were right. I have even read where some have experienced some bloom in spite of untimely transplanting. Keep 'em alive and they will straighten out in time.

Make certain you dig up with enough soil and prune back the roots when transplanting, divide, and throw in a handful of bone meal and you just might get blooms this year depending on the variety.

Hi, My wife's friend is giving us some irises. We have never tried growing them before. Any help and advice would be appeciated. Thanks.

I move iris whenever necessary and always have good luck with them.
I dig a hole large enough to spread the roots out. I make a mound of dirt,sand and bone meal. Place the iris on this mound spread out the roots. Rake the dirt back into the hole covering the roots but leaving the top of the tuber exposed.
I also trim the leaves to an inverted V. Good Luck
