Unknown Hydrangea

I am a newbie to gardening as well as planting hydrangeas. I planted one last fall after having it on my patio. I don't know what it is. I got it from Home Depot it was in a pot with pink foil. I put it in the ground last fall. Before planting it, I let it sit in the elected location (under a cherry tree) until I was ready to plant. It did well, so I put it in the ground. This spring I saw that it survived. All of the old wood seemed to be dying so I removed it. I have great foliage but no blooms. Did I take away the blooms when I removed the old wood? Am I going to have a lush plant with no blooms or is it going to take time for it to start to bloom again? I also purchased an Endless Summer a week ago and plan on putting under the same tree. It's a big Cherry. Should I plant it some place where it will get some sun or do you think it will be okay. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
