I quit!!.....

I will not plant another hosta until we get some rain. It's 2 weeks now,and still no rain. The only good thing about it is,the hostas have to put down some really deep roots! It is so bad here, the weeds are wilting! Phil

    Phil,
We had 2.5 inches of rain in 90 minutes Sunday but as usual it will shut off shortly and I will be dragging around those cursed hoses and reminding myself not to plant any more so far away from the spigot. Then by next year I will have forgotten and plant more even further away.I guess addiction has a way of making you forget the bad times and only chalks up the good ones.!The hurricanes are coming to bring the rain so just hang in there!

We had 3-4 inches in less than an hour last Friday... with embedded hail. I'd prefer to battle drought with hoses to the shredded masses that resulted.

But that doesn't minimize the agony of watching your babies struggle through a drought. Day after day without rain has historically proven to be a powerful influence on mental health. Hang in there... this too shall pass!

Sorry to hear about the hail,Jim! Here,it's so dry, slugs only go out at night to eat my hostas! I can't even spray them in the daytime, because they are hiding! It will eventually rain, but, for now it's pretty bad. BTW,hail would not even show on my plants;they still have the holes from back in April, and now slugs! Phil

We just had a storm last night finally! I hope you get some, Phil-without Jim's hail! Of course, I'll be watering again by the end of the week if we don't get more. It has been dreadfully dry with temps around 100 here in the dc area-ugh.

Denny, I have discovered a remedy for what ails you-you would be amazed at how many hoses can be joined to reach even the farthest hosta-lol.

I'm only a few miles from Jim. So much rain in such a short period that people were able to canoe at the end of my block - right on Cty Rd 73!

I think we have you beat, 3-4 weeks no rain here. The rain showers go above or below us. Last few days 96-98, then a little break yesterday around 92. It's a killer but I try to look on the bright side, not seeing the slugs like usual.

It looks like all of us on the east coast are having the same problem. You, Sandy, Cyn and Me.

We got a storm come through Monday morning and my husband said the rain gauge showed 1 1/2 inches. But when it comes like that, it seems that a lot of it just runs off. I would love to see a long, slow steady rainfall.

Dragging out the hose again in the morning!

    cyn427,
Thanks a million! you have just saved my burro and I about a billion steps!!:)

We have had alot of rain here but it has caused a significant increase in slugs and the damage that follows. I am overzealous about watering because of my huge shallow rooted Silver Maples that use up most of the moisture. If I see the top of the soil dry out, I water. If it only rains a little bit, I water. Dragging the hoses around can be a real drag(pun intended) so I rarely ever put it away anymore. I plan on installing an automatic drip irrigation system either this fall or next spring so that each plant will be target watered.

Phil we are also dry as a bone in N.J. too, same deal two weeks--no rain. After last year's onslaught of daily rain I promised myself I wouldn't complain this year if we had a dry summer. So-- I can't complain, I'll just use what's in my rain barrels and the hose for the rest. I'm one who hardly ever waters by hand so for the most part my plants are used to it ;-)
