blues are real hard to id because cameras vary so, but mine has a turquoise tint, not like your color. the bud is very turq blue, like a swimming pool color, then opens a pale blue. i love this iris~ i say its pool color because my flower was perched over a neighbors pool in the distance and it delighted me so!

Ok, I guess that isn't what mine is then. The buds on mine are dark blue, almost navy, it always surprises me how differently they open up. The bloom itself is sort of a softer periwinkle color. I guess this will just have to be un-named from now on.
This is really one of my favorite iris, not ruffly or really showy in itself, but such a lovely color.
Thanks so much for your help!

I had NJ for several years, and one of its distinctive features was the color change once the heat set in. In cool temps buds opened to be a very pale turquoise blue as Jain described, but as soon as the heat came on the buds opened to very grey blooms. The blue was completely washed out. Also it had incredibly wide leaves and large fans which really stood out against the other irises. I couldn't rule your 'maybe NJ' out just from the pic, as the beard coloration and the ruffling are really close - and given the vagaries of color with photos and differences in soil qualities which can greatly affect color. Here's a shot of mine from 2003.

Well Mike, I checked the leaves on that iris, & they are significanly broader than other iris I have. Perhaps I need to buy Navaho & compare...
