Japanese Iris

I have just received some varigated japanese iris.I do not know much about them as I grow TB,siberian and dutch iris.

I have been reading up on them and planted them about 3 inches deep and I read that they need to be kept moist. They like acid soil and is it okay to mulch them with pine tree needles.

I've also read they can be quite tricky to grow.Should I leave them in the ground or pot them in the late fall for the winter time.I read that some japanese iris do not survive the winter due to too much water in the winter.

Does anyone know about these iris and if so can you give me some pointers from your experience with them.

Thanks to all!
