It has been my experience that iris will usually skip blooming following a move. They will probably miss another bloom season if you lift them again. I am in a different zone, so this may not be common everywhere.

I had to lift an entire row early one spring. I took as much dirt as possible, thinking they would be okay. Not one bloom from the row I moved. If you want to see them bloom this year, maybe you should wait until after they bloom to move them.

I have a slightly different question. My MIL dug up her
bed last fall and gave me some of her Iris. Due to a
massive remodel at our house, they were never planted.
I have had them in a box in the garage all winter,
and when I just now looked at them, they are starting
to grow. Can I plant them in a pot? Should I plant
them back in my tree line and naturalize? HELP?

Hello Ghatta: Anything that is starting to grow after spending the winter in a box in the garage is saying: "Plant me!" I don't think pots are the right place to plant irises, they need to be in the ground. Also, they need to be in the sun, which answers your last question about planting them in your tree line. Irises planted under trees won't do well. Find a nice sunny spot in your garden. They will do well! Enjoy!
