Perfect time to prune pines. Need a decent pair of hand pruners and a small saw.
Everything depends on what kind of pines they are. If they are eldarica pines or similar, which are generally symetrical, start by taking unruly branches back to a joint. Don't ever just cut the branch anywhere and leave an unprotected cut sticking out. Once that's done, you can fine tune the shape by taking out smaller pieces of branches anywhere it's needed, again, back to where it meets another branch. This can probably all be done with hand pruners and a little patience. You're not going to screw up the tree. If you need to take out a large piece of branch, look at what size hole it may open up. Less may be more. Finally, in the spring and summer, you can prevent unruly growth by trimming the candles, or long shoots of new growth from the buds. Cut them a little, a lot, whatever. They are going to be branches one day.
If you have Japanese black pines, you can trim branches and buds to control the growth into interesting movement and shape that can't really be done with the other pines.
