While I am fairly new to irises, compared to so many who frequent the forum here, but I 'think' they should be settled in and bloom at their full height and bloom size, given the 'right' conditions, their second bloom season.

Hopefully a veteran grower will also reply.

Some exceptions:

If you received a healthy rhiz you may have the best bloom/height the 1st year. If your growing conditions are not so great (poor drainage, too little sun, depleted soil) it may take 2 years for that rhiz to attain perfect bloom again.

You may receive a rhiz that has been growing in less than ideal conditions. It may take 2-3 years for its maiden bloom.

You may have an established clump and out of the blue the darn thing grows a foot taller than normal.

And there are some cultivars that are just slow growers. They may skip a year in the best conditions.
