Gypsy Romance is a really pretty one and so is your Louisiana Iris. Not that I know anything about Louisiana Iris but it looks pretty to me. Seems to me that you had a very good Tall Bearded Iris season this year.

Are you sure that's a Louisiana? It looks like a Japanese iris to me, but I don't really grow either so I could be mistaken. It's very lovely.

You're right Rita, blooms started April 5th and went through May 18th. I normally expect 3 weeks.

Renee, I have no idea. I was told it was a Louisiana iris, but no real idea. I like the way it looks though and it is a purple one which I like. I wouldn't have thought a Japanese iris wold survive here, Who knows?

Gypsy Romance is one of my favorite iris, still blooming here too. I like the other iris too. I can't tell you what type it is, but I think Japanese iris would be fine there if it gets enough water. I have some Japanese iris, but the dratted things won't bloom for some reason. Of course, I don't really know just when they should bloom here, maybe I'm not giving them a chance!

Definitely a Japanese Iris. If you check the leaves there will be a small but noticeable midrib on them. LA leaves are wider, and smooth.

Japanese Iris can bloom at least a month later than TB's so be patient. I have had really good results growing them in pots which are moved into a water garden (or big saucer of water) in the Spring.

Gypsy Romance seems to be a big favorite with us. The color is hard to beat, isn't it?
