You can move them after they are done blooming. Most people wait until July or August, but some of us do it in June. I wait until there are decent sized new fans growing off of the bloomed out rhizome, so I can break them off and plant them.

its just whether you want to waste this years flowers ... may as well enjoy them.. then do the nasty deed...

Ken - They are either just finished blooming or now blooming, so I'm waiting for a week. It is supposed to be cooler next week and these torrential rains may slow down. Did your area get any of the bad storms? They have been rolling though every 8 hours or so all week. It is making it difficult to get my new garden in!

tecumseh.. 4 miles north of me.. got creamed [in a thunderstorm sort of way not tornado] ... quite a few 100 year + old trees ... were found to be hollow ... fell right over and took power with them ....

mine just opened yesterday ... i have given some away .. simply ripping them out of the ground.. and handing them to peeps...

Haaa!! Ken, I am living proof that I can kill some things. Those unkillable smoke bushes I planted last year? Dead. One might possibly have some life in it, but not worth keeping since I have a warranty on them all. I suspect it was that late frost that did them in. One had started to leaf out, died after the freeze/80 degree shock.

Too bad about all those old trees. Between the new bugs and the weather, the big old grandfather trees are dropping like flies in Michigan.

I can't generally kill an Iris btw, or day lily I just really want to make sure these are safe. They have grown in garbage bags for a year in my presence. :) I will transplant them when they are all done blooming and the stalks have died back a bit.

The rule of thumb if you want bloom next year is wait at least 6 weeks after bloom.
