Yes, I've done it for years. Try not to disturb the roots when transplanting, and try to transplant before they become so big they tangle together.

Cell packs work fine, as do small pots. Transplant when the roots basically fill the soil mass. Smaller is actually better, because this happens faster. Peat pots might be the easiest route to go for the less experienced gardener.

I make newspaper pots and plant my peas in them. I like them better than peat pots because the peat seems to dry out so fast. I just tear them a little when I plant the peas out - no need to take the newspaper off completely. Easy and it's inexpensive.
