The leaves look somewhat chlorotic, i.e. pale green with darker green near the veins. That is probably from a nutrient deficiency, which would be consistent with what appears to be very sandy soil. I suggest applying some fertilizer.

The sandy soil probably is droughty and will require regular watering.

Also, there seems to be leaf miners in several leaves. I have never had those and can't suggest what to do.

jimster, the soil was purchased from a local nursery this season, formulated for raised beds. While the mix does include sandy loam, It has added compost as well. When I dig down into the soil, it has a nice fluffy texture and is not dry, but not wet either ... slightly damp, I'd say. The plants were fertilized with EB Stone organics for tomatoes and vegetables a week ago. I neglected to fertilize the soil when I planted the seeds.

So much for soil analysis by photograph. Scratch the sandy soil theory. :-)

Your recent application of fertilizer may show results soon. I have had a similar phenomenon with newly emerged beans and they outgrew it.

Jimster, that is not the soil in the beds! I pulled the leaves out and layed them on a bare patch of soil in the yard for the photograph ... :-)

I guess that also explains why I see no stems or petioles. DUH!!!
