So did you come up with anything? I'd think that whatever is supporting the eggcrate would then need washing! And I have heavy pots, I don't think the eggcrate would support their weight very well.

Well, Indoor Garden Supplies sells supports that are just pre-cut slices of PVC pipe. They're more convenient than hand-cutting because they're uniform, but also more expensive. Six of them in a 10"Ã20" tray would support even heavy pots, and they are much easier to clean than eggcrate ... but it doesn't really take that long to scrub off eggcrate with a stiff-bristled laundry brush.

I guess from the lack of response that most people just use one or two layers of eggcrate.
