Mites?

Has anyone had this problem? I understand that by using Merit, mites can come (why, I am not sure) invade and harm iris.

Telltale signs of mites are the leaves start turning brown from the tips. Also, it looks like a mild version of leaf spot (many small light spots on the green parts of the leaves).

It doesn't look like the iris will die from this infestation. (by the way I haven't actually seen any mites, but there is some fine webbing around the bases of some plants(mite hangouts?)But it sure isn't doing them any good.

Looks like I will have to spray with something, but what I don't know.

Really!?! I've only had mite damage on a rose where it turned the leaves to silver. I've had aphids, scale and whitefly on the beardeds.

I used a miticide on the rose and it was very effective. Don't remember the brand - long while ago.

I think you can tap the leaves on a piece of white paper and use a magnifying glass to see mites.

I've been fighting spider mites on my violets for the last two years. One of their main tell-tale markers is the fine dotting on the leaves. Soapy water will take them out. They like dry conditions and often hide behind fine webbing so soak the plants and the surface of the soil good. I've never seen them on iris before, but I have no doubt they will eat whatever is handy. They infested a clump of daffs last spring in my shade garden.

Thanks. I will have to try to find some mites by shaking the plants over paper and seeing what happens.
Was reading on the 'net one way to get rid of them is to bring in some 'predator' mites. Predator mites are the same size as spider mites, but have long legs (and I guess the long legs enable them to catch the spider mites and eat them). Sounds like a Discovery Channel Nature show in the making.

I just cut some irises and brought in to put in a vase. After I had the irises arranged, I noticed hundreds of small mite-looking bugs on the cabinet. They are also on my kitchen table, where the flowers were first laid. My concerns are twofold. First, what damage can they do in the house (I'm starting to itch already!). Second, what damage can they do in the yard?

These critters are very tiny. I don't think they are aphids, and they are not red. They are very light colored, but they run like crazy. Does anybody have a clue as to what they may be and what I should do about them?

I've got a problem with that too this year. I was wondering if someone could suggest what to use. Otherwise, I'm going to get some Sevin dust tomorrow to see if that helps.

    Laetitia,
Look around the pollen stem or anther, that's where mites hang out in iris.
    They eat the pollen.
Little brown specks that run like crazy.
