Farmerdill's rule #1, If it ain't broke don't fix it. You are getting a crop of beans are you not?

Yup. That's what I decided. The beans keep coming, I just can't figure out how the plants do it! Anyway, at least the @#$%^ Japanese beetles haven't found my beans yet. I thought at first that they were getting the leaves, but it turned out the beans just weren't making as many leaves as I thought they should.

How in heaven are your beans so far ahead of mine? Did you start them indoors and transfer them? This is my first year growing beans (pole beans). I planted some on our last frost free date of May 11th. I still have nubs like six inches tall, nothing in feet yet!

I planted way earlier than I should have. I don't remember the date, but it was April. We had very early warm weather, and I had an excess of pole bean seed, so I figured why not? If they grew, great. Otherwise I'd start them again when the time was right. They came up and just sat there for weeks on end until the weather again got warm and maybe the sun was right. Then they took off, but never really put on the kind of leaves the guys here post pictures of. I can't complain about the yield since I've been picking about a gallon every two days now. I planted them too close I think, at about 6-8 inches apart, so perhaps that has something to do with the less than stellar bushiness. Now we are getting no rain. I think I've gotten about 0.1 inches since early May. Been out there watering almost every day.
