How about a photo? It's hard to identify a plant by description. If it has multiple leaves coming from the base, like a daylily, it's probably not a true lily (Lilium), so the folks on this forum (which is for Lilium) may or may not be able to ID it. A photo might help, even without a flower.

My guess: it is a Dendrobium Speciosum orchid. Native to eastern Australia its common name is "rock lily" or "king orchid," It has long, thick canes topped by 3-5 leathery leaves. Spectacular white to cream spring flowers on long, foxtail-like racemes. Like most orchids it appreciates good drainage, but is tolerant of a wide range of temperatures and likes bright but not direct sunlight.
