Iris gracilipes light needs

I have Iris gracilipes in a shady garden - and the shading has increased over time. I'd like to know what light level is suitable for optimum plant growth leading to a bigger plant overall.

The plant is healthy and flowers but is not making much headway with spreading.

Each autumn it is topdressed with leaf mould, but not 'smothered'. (Before I did this I'd find it precariously sitting out of the ground and withering.)

Take a 'cutting' and try it elsewhere? Lift it all and move it out to more morning light? Put away the garden fork and leave well enough alone? I'd hate to lose it after all these years, hence the questions.
