Hi, my name is Angela and I have not a clue how many total or the # of variety's. I lost count when I went over 100. I know 90% of mine are divisions and that I have filled over 200 sq yards with them. For the most part mine are common everyday ones but I know I have at least 20 collector grade...

I am NOT a hostaholic! I can quit anytime! I don't need hosta!
I have over 800 varieties of hosta - don't know how plants - does that sound like a hostaholic to you?! I didn't think so - rofl.

I am a hostaholic-I am just a newbie though I have 50 different-I love them so much that I have seperate beds for different ones. I live in a couryard with other homes so I don't have a lot of land so garden beds are already pretty full but I will still find room for that hosta, just one more hosta; okay maybe 2 or 3...or ten...or...LOL

i am at over 400 varieties

I am at 294 varieties. I am sure after the hosta sale I am going to this weekend, and the fact that the House of Hosta just happens to be on the way home from that sale...I'll be over 300. Guess I better make more beds!

My DH asks from time to time how many I have. I think he means total, including divisions and dulicates (like say, 10 of a favorite). I say I don't know how many TOTAL hostas. That is true. He asks if I think I have a hundred? I same probably..well, most certainly, and change the subject.

I have a list of all the different varieties, alphabetized, and it includes duplicates and where purchased, but not the number of each duplicate.

While the list is alphabetized, it is not numbered. So I don't know how many, and don't WANT to know the actual number. That way I can truthfully say "I don't know" If he were really interested, he could go count them, but he is isn't that interested, and I am definitely not interested in knowing the actual number (I could probably hazard a pretty accurate guess, but won't.)

I am not an addict, and I am not in denial (ROTF, after falling off the chair, LOL)

Denial, I know all about it. I rechecked my list and realized I forgot to add my last couple of hosta purchases. So I'm already over 300.

Last counting yesterday of 131 varieties...mind you placed in a small garden. And God only knows how many seedling and rows that have been split and resplit for endging!
And no end in site..infected my husband also.

You guys are crazy! and the reason I have 125.

I, on the other hand, am just beautifing nature by tastefully placing over 600 hosta, 180 varieties, in my simple garden.

I have no idea how many I have or how many different cultivars. I don't have a single hosta bed. I just stick hostas wherever I see a good opening. They beautify the yard.

I definitely don't collect them. It has to be a pretty great looking hosta for me to add it to the yard and that generally means a duplicate, which is fine with me. Can't have too many Blue Angels, Paradigms, montana Aureomarginatas or Sun Powers.

The only new variety I added this year is Orange Marmalade. And the Empress Wu I stuck in the seedling bed to see if it will really grow. Not much so far.

I've added some nice duplicates though, including a 50-plus inch Blue Angel. Won't have to wait too long for that to be large.

I have 288 with a few duplicates that put me over 300. I have slowed down this year. My DD is getting married in my garden in September. I need to get some hardscape taken care of so my hosta funds are limited. I have a bunch of pods that I may collect for this winter, and so it goes...

Over 1300 named varieties and a few hundred seedlings.I usually find myself in a panic by September to get the new ones out of gallon pots and into ground pots before winter.
Everybody in my locality calls me "The Hosta Man".I prefer to be called "The Emperor Of Funkia" ,but it doesn't seem to be catching on.....

I don't have a number and I don't have any more space, at least not space for new beds. I've been planting them under the daylilies, under the shrubs and lately in full sun. I've taken to minis and small ones so I can fit more in, with an occational giant one just for the nuts of it! I'm not a hostaholic, I can quit any time, I don't need Royal or Supreme Mouse Ears, I only dig out other perennials because I don't like them, not because I need more room for hosta. I haven't been rear ended breaking to look a hosta in someone's yard I'm driving past, yet. Just because I order the new ones in January when I get the Plant Delights catalog or any other one dosen't mean I have a problem, does it?

I have 300 varieties and can't stop buying them. The problem is that once they grow up I'll only have room for about 150.

I don't have that many...260 named ones and it is only June, much planting time remaining this year. LOL Still got room if I buy a few more feet of garden hose. We are dry here this spring again but the cool weather sure agreed with the hostas. They are beautiful this year. I will quit buying when you all stop posting those pictures of the ones I don't have!!! :)

are you guys kidding,over 1000 plants. Do you run a nursery? I love hostas and roses are my true love and that's where my money goes. I just can't believe a regular home owner has that many plants.

I'd hate for a judge to get hold of this list with all those admissions of guilt being freely bandied about. Actually, I was forced to grow Hosta because nothing else will grow in this dark, clay-filled, hilly location. So I can innocently sit here and plead that my 350 some Hosta are a necessity not an obsession! (And I stick by my story)! Lol. Mary

Obviously, I'm not a hostaholic, cause I only have about 85 varieties, quite a few duplicates. I'm going to show this thread to my DH to prove to him that I don't have an addiction and that I COULD be like those of you who ARE addicted. Is he lucky or what? I could be really obsessed instead of just mildly so. If all of you true addicts would just stop posting all those beautiful pics.(DON'T STOP!)

I'll admit it. I love hosta. I have 201 varieties and I'm leaving for First Look tomorrow. Should come home with a few more from the vendors. My husband believes I belong to a cult...and guess who all the members are...

I think I have around 30 different named varieties. But I'm REALLY new. We just bought our first house in December. My mom who has always been an avid gardner (but not a hosta person, more of a daylilly type :)), bought a grab bag of 25 from gilbert wilde and split them with me. I then found what I think is 'June' at Lowes and I've been on-line searching and reading and finding new nurseries ever since. I've been hiding purchases from my husband (so I know I'm starting to become obsessed) and dragging bucket loads of compost daily (with my 4 year old, while the baby sleeps) trying to get a new bed ready for my second shade garden so my new ones will have a home too. My name is Ron, and have hover somewhere just above 100 varieties. I have been out of room for years which is why I only got 12 new varieties this year. I keep a careful list of everything I have. I also keep a list of everything I have gotten rid of in the past. I keep a list of the various sources I have purchased from. I also have a list problem.

Jill....That does not make me feel very good, good god, I'm close to sixty three years old, I dont think I'd live long enough to plant that many Hosta's....300!!???

So your goal Katy is 300 by age 66.

I'm a hostaholic. Even though life changes compelled me to stop planting new Hostas I still cherish them and have well over 200 that I planted, as well as over another 100 keepers that sprang up on their own.

Thanks for bumping this, Ken. I SO miss acquiring new, unique Hostas and all those fun bidding "wars" at the auctions.

I'd love to see current pics of some of these 12+yr. old specimens, in these peoples gardens. I wonder how many may still check in here now?

I've only been a hosta addict for about 7 years now, so a lot of my 350ish collection is fairly new and immature.

I have about 100 in ceramic pots, which suffer from my feeble pot culture attempts, and I lose (historically speaking) about 20% of them over the winter. My disappointment over those losses is soon forgotten, once the garden centers open in the spring, and I find myself unable to resist buying more of this lush eye candy.

I guess by definition I am a hostahollic. I have over 450 varieties and now that I grow seedlings in my Dever basement I am losing count. Probably around 2000 plants. I have more room for more gardens, but am trying to resist building any more. Weeding,mulching,feeding,spraying to kill slugs or voles keeps me totally occupied all spring,summer and fall. Any of you fellow Hosta freaks please stop by if you find yourself in very upstate NY.

I have only 130 or so named varieties plus our seedlings. I don't have much space and did my last expansion of the garden in 2018 - which was mostly planted last year. I am trying to remove those that, for whatever reason, are not working for me but each cull is stressful.

Well, I am a hostaholic, and my name is Debra..... I am no way as sick as the rest of you. I started hostas in 1992 when a friend turned me on to them because of my shady yard. I was able to control myself, in the beginning, but little by little the addiction grew. I stared digging up more and more grass to plant hostas. Then I got Bert (many of you know he is my enabler who digs and plants for me) and I had he and his son dig up the front yard for a bed. Every year the beds get enlarged because I buy more hostas even though each time I buy one, I tell my husband “this is the last one!” (Yeah, right) But I must say, because I live on a city lot, I certainly don’t have as many as the rest of you sickos—— over a hundred, but some of those are duplicates. I plan to replace duplicates with new varieties, so overall, I think I am doing ok in my recovery! (all comments made here are with tongue in cheek!

I do love this group. You are the only people who understand me. Currently I am at 172 different varieties and of course I am always looking to add to my collection.

Since I have 2 acres it is easy to start another garden (I put a couple layers of cardboard down and mulch on top. Then leave it for 6 months. Grass is gone and ready to plant.)

I had a suspicious Gold Standard..zkathy sent me a test strip..it tested positive for HVX..I removed it..I decided why not take a count when I inspect every hosta in the garden..I do have a list of 64 known varieties that I planted..my plant count is a lot higher..the total then was 504..it's higher now..I have half an acre and have been planting for 15 years..I have duplicates of my favorites..I've seen beautiful varieties on the forum that I hope to own someday..

Who am I kidding? I just ordered four more bringing this winter's total to 25. But I have a really good excuse. I had to get Georgia Sweetheart in memory of my mom Georgia Sue who passed away this year.
