Sounds like aphids. Sevin is not effective. For a small patch insecticidal soap works pretty well. For a field Malathion will work.

Thanks, Farmer. Actually, the peas are about gone now and the aphids remained in the one spot.

I'll remember for next year, though.

Thanks for identifying these. I have them on my zipper peas too, and only in an isolated area -- a couple of plants that are close together. I've just been wiping them off by hand. Won't use chemicals, but may try soap with cayenne or something similar if they return next year.
