Where did you purchase your seeds and can you post a picture of them?

I recieved this bean in a seed swap years ago at the Appachian Heirlom Seed Conservancy annual meeting and swap in Berea Ky. This years swap is Oct 2 at the home of Bill Best in Berea at 0900 see www.heirlooms.org for directions to bills all are invited. Brook Elliot was the originator and it was a Kentucky Heirloom. Off hand I do not have any more information but I will get it and post it. Southern Exposure seeds also recieved this bean during that seed swap and two years ago asked me to do a large grow out of it. So I am the grower for this bean for Southern Exposure seeds. Rodger

I am thinking that this is likely the same as North Carolina Speckled Long Cutshort Greasy that I got from an SSE swap. They say that it is a favorite at an Ashville NC farmers market.

It is not really a cutshort but it is a greasy. The 5 inch pods are green and eventually get fat and bumpy with seeds. As the pods mature, they develop red streaks. They require stringing but well worth it. This is a very fine snap and combination snap-shelly when mature, sort of like a greasy version of Tobacco Worm.

We bought Red Striped Greasies some years back as my best chance of getting a good crop of greasy beans in zone 4a (WI). We got *two* crops, one in July & a lighter one in the fall! They're well-behaved climbers. We made arches out of cattle panels & these climbed to the top (Pink Tip Greasy Beans stampeded to the top &kept piling up!). We love the flavor of the Red Striped Greasies & have been planting them ever since. I did find, though, that busy bees cross them with other beans, so they do need isolation to keep the line pure.
