Japanese Sword Beans -- awesome.

I tried growing these this year. It was a rough start, because the deer kept defoliating them until the vines got too tall for bambi to reach them anymore. But, they have loved our hot weather.

I harvested a bunch (well, like about 1/4 of a paper shopping bag) off of them 2 nights ago. Most of the pods were about 4 inches long, but a few had gotten to about 10 inches. No sign of any bean enlarging within yet, and the biggest surprise was that even the largest ones were very tender when cooked.

Flavor is rather mild overall, sort of green bean like but sort of like yard longs, too.

I was going to post a photo, but all I kept getting from photobucket was a server too busy error, so I'll try later.
