I can't speak for Missouri, here in MN they would be mush if left in a pot outside or even in the garage for that matter. The size of the pot may also make a difference. If you have a place for them, I would just plant them in the ground this fall or to be safe, sink the pot in the ground.

The most preferred time to plant oriental lilies like stargazer is in the Fall. So if you know where you're going to plant them, do it now. The reason for fall planting is that in general all lilium (which Stargazer a member of) require at least 400 hours of vernalization or a winter chill at ground temperature below 38 degrees F. They need that chill in order to complete good bud and flower development which takes place within the bulb over winter. Plant about 5 or 6 inches deep in well drained soil or about an inch or two deeper than they were in the pot. If you see little baby bulbs attached to the the main stem, leave them on or plant closer to the surface. Good luck with you Starazers--they're are a beautiful flower. More questions are welcome.

thanks ihostaholic2 and interspecific. last night was our first freeze and aren't able to plant until Friday, is this ok?
when they were in bloom this summer they were beautiful and great fragrance. then flowers died and about September the tips of the stem looked it was growing something again, but nothing ever materialized. as i said, this is my first lily and I'm slooowly learning.
The yellow lily I bought with it they called a bir bird. to me its frafrance was a bit citrusy--lemony

You can plant anytime now until around Thanksgiving time in your area zone. Just make sure you work the soil nice and loose and it drains well. Water in well once to assure good soil contact, then cut the old stems off to about 2 inches above ground level if they haven't came off by themselves already. But don't forcably pull stub out yourself. Like a childs new tooth--the old stem will come out when a new stem replaces it next spring.

Lilies are easy to grow and do well wherever you see Peonies and Iris and their care is the same--pretty much care free. A common myth most people have is that all lilies like water and need to be planted near waters edge or in a low,wet spot is absolutely not true for asiatic, oriental, trumpet, their hybreds and other less common members of lilium.

I don't recognize the name of your other yellow flower so I can't say anything for you on that one. Are you sure you spelled it correctly? Did the main stem and leaves look like Stargazers stem and leaves? Any more you could add would be helpful. Perhaps another forum member might have some info
