Sweet Autumn Clematis (Cl. Ternifolia aka Paniculata) is one of those plants that kind of depends on where you are.

I had it in Maryland and it literally ate a portion of my yard. Cut to the ground in early winter, the next season it would throw out 30+ feet of new growth. And it self-seeded too readily. It was a battle there.

I don't think it would be a problem here in the colder zones; here it would likely be a very manageable vine with reasonable seasonal growth, and the winters would take care of any self-seeding. Hopefully someone who has them growing here will weigh in.

Beautiful in bloom; just covers itself with delicate white flowers. Seemed to bloom for a fairly long time - and the frangrance is intoxicating.

Why not grow the native Virgin's Bower?
